Chapter Text
Remus stared at the blank walls in front of him, most of his belongings still in boxes. At 15, after living his whole life in Liverpool, he’s moved to London. Now, to most, it’s not much of a change. Nor is it to Remus, he could care less where he is, not like it mattered anyway, he’d be moving into his new schools dormitories in just a week. He was only here because his father was to remarry soon. Remus thought it to be ridiculous, his mother had only died 3 years before, and Lyall Lupin was ready to forget about her completely.
He was snapped out of his thoughts when the head butler knocked on his door, and informed him the he was expected in his father’s study. Remus didn’t answer, he just got up and followed.
He walked down to it, passing the pictures in the halls, not one of Hope Lupin to be seen.
“What d’you want, I was just about to start packing for next week.” Remus said, uninterested, while standing in his fathers study.
”Remus, on top of you starting this term living at school, I expect you to find a job as well. You must-“
”A Job?,” Remus shouted. “I’m only fifteen! Where am I-“
”CALM DOWN.” Lyall’s voice sharpened, “I hope that school of yours teaches you manners, and a proper way to speak. A job will teach you responsibility, where you decide to get it does not concern me.”
”Whatever. I’m heading out, guess to find me a job or something.” he stormed out, running up to his room to grab a jacket. He walked out the door, closing it with a slam. As soon as he felt the London air, he felt uncomfortable in his skin.
London felt far too loud and too big. He walked London streets aimlessly, and it appeared luck was on his side. He spotted a record shop, just a couple minutes into his journey, with a poster taped to its front door that read “NOW HIRING, EMERGENCY OPENING.” Huh. Lucky find, he supposed.
Inside, he found it was quite nice. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, but looked really cool, or, at least Remus thought. If wasn’t just Vinyls, it appeared to be somewhat of a music shop as well. There were guitars of different sorts hung on walls, and various other instruments in the far back. He looked around in amazement, before he heard a voice call to him.
”Hello! Welcome in! Anything I can help with?” asked a girl with a bright smile on her face. She was beautiful, Remus noticed immediately. She had long black hair that was dyed blue in highlights, and was wearing a nice leather jacket. He realized he was staring, and opened his mouth to speak.
”Er- yeah,” Remus offered quickly, “I saw you guys were hiring?”
”Oh! YES!” she laughed, “I’m Andromeda, call me Andy though. I’m not usually at the shop, but we’re down an employee, and the shop is very hectic. What’s your name then?” She rambled, all while keeping that same bright smile on her face.
”Er, Remus. Remus Lupin. I don’t got a resume, and i’m only fifteen, but I know music better than most, I assure you.”
”Well, Remus, it’s alright that you’re a youngin! My cousin, Sirius, and his friends are the main employees on weekends, and they’re all fifteen as well! However, you do got to prove you’re worth the work.” she gestured to the relatively empty shop, “Go on then, have a look around the shop and pick out the first Vinyl ya know.” Andy ordered, arm out, gesturing to the shop.
And so, Remus did. He found a couple he knew, but none of them well enough to say they were good. He had to prove his worth, didn’t he? He looked around the shop, just to pay more attention to it than he did before, when he noticed someone now at the counter, and they were already looking at him. It was a boy, he had wavy black hair almost to his shoulders, eyeliner smudged around his eyes, dressed in a jacket similar to Andy’s, but without focusing on all that, Remus saw that the boy was very attractive. Was it weird to say that about a boy, especially one he didn’t even know? The boy was as beautiful as Andy, maybe even more, to Remus. Once the boy realized he had been caught staring, he turned away.
A minute or two later, Remus found an album worth it, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie. This was it! He spun around to search for Andromeda.
”Andy! I found it.” He said smiling largely, holding up the Vinyl.
Andromeda’s eyes widened a slight bit, before her lips tugged upwards into a huge smile.
“Remus! You’re hired!” she exclaimed.
”What, really?” he asked, surprised.
”Absolutely! Bowie is amazing! Come with me, meet the rest!
”Er- okay!” Remus followed her, dazed.
