Work Text:
Apo was scared. The war was loud in her already ringing ears and the screams of comrades slain were the worst kind. Shells exploded around her and all she could do was keep her head down in the trench and pray.
If Xarus was listening to her silent pleas she would have done something by now… right?
It may have been useless but the sinking feeling of her goddess abandoning her at her possible last moments was scary.
Her world was collapsing.
Her world… that reminded her of Cherri.
Cherri, whose smile could brighten her darkest day, whose infectious laugh would spread to everyone she met. Whose kindness and compassion knew no bounds.
Xarus, she missed her, truly what good was there spilling her guts to an apparently heartless goddess.
She remembered the Scythe she was always depicted carrying and chuckled softly. The very essence of blood was said to inhabit it and it was her duty to keep it in check.
Nice one seeing as the blood poured freely from the wounds of her fellow soldiers.
Her mind was swimming with thoughts of her life before all this. She didn't even remember her orders as she sat and her tear streaked face was blank with horrors.

Xarus was staring down at her follower Apo Kuna and crying with her. She didn't blame her for her wavering faith, she would have done the same but she wept for the people who would cry when they got notice of her death.
Or would they?
Xarus made up her mind right then and there to bring this girl home to her lover, no matter what.
She watched as Apo gave in to sleep and she summoned all her remaining strength to teleport her a safe way away.
It was sad how war affects so many innocent people. It would be the last time she let the Scythe run rampant for a while.
And yet when she was placed down in the hollowed out trunk of a tree she still felt how scared she would be when she woke from her slumber.
A cool thing about being a god was magic. The ability to create, destroy and bend fate and reality to your will.
So she reached out and gently placed her hand on her forehead, letting her consciousness wander in.
She tampered with her memories slightly, letting Apo experience a running motion and laying down here. She would be safe for now.
And even now as Apo has long turned her back on Xarus, or should I say Pearl, the goddess still watches over her.
The favour of the Goddess of War was a dangerous thing in the wrong hands but Pearl knew how to choose the right person for the job.
