Shikamaru opens the door in a pair of low-slung sweatpants and a loose, faded t-shirt and Ino thinks that her life is turning into one big joke. And a rather distasteful one at that, if she’s allowed any input. Shikamaru’s standing there, one arm braced on the doorjamb above his head, leaning against the frame of the house so that she can see a slash of toned, tanned stomach from where his shirt’s riding up, and Ino thinks she might strangle something. Maybe whatever god’s decided to turn her life into their personal sitcom. Maybe Shikamaru.
_____________'Casual' and 'uncomplicated' sounded good to Ino when Shikamaru suggested it. And, if she's honest, her feelings are still relatively uncomplicated - just in a different way then Shikamaru meant, and decidedly opposite of 'casual'.

He frowns. She leans closer and tries again, her eyes softening as she stares. “I used to dream of this.” She admits, “Starting a family.” Her voice cracks, and she looks away.

He’s silent for a while, and the sound of the wind unsettles her. But his sigh tells her that he has something to say.
