Dead? Rience? That wasn’t-no way.
Jaskier almost wanted to laugh, but this wasn’t laughable. If Rience was dead, then he was unmated. In a room with two Alphas, that he didn’t know anything about. So, instead of laughing, he just settled for wrapping his arms further around his stomach. Which, unfortunately, brought the Alpha’s attention to it. He frowned. “How far along are you?”
Jaskier stilled. They knew. They knew he was pregnant- no, no he couldn’t lose another one. If he was unbonded then one of them would try to bond him, and he’d never be allowed to keep his baby.
AKA: Geralt kills Rience, only to find that Rience was bonded to a pregnant Omega, with enough trauma to make a witcher concerned.

They’ve just moved to a new house in the suburbs, Geralt has to take her school shopping because Jaskier’s on tour, the other kids AND the school counselor think Ciri’s a liar when she says one of her dads is a famous singer and the other is a Witcher, and she’s not sure if her costume for the school’s Saovine family fun fair is OK. You know, just normal life.

“You did save my life, and I do not like being indebted to a joy-sucking crone, even one without magic," Jaskier says shakily, "so how can I repay you?”
“You could get me out of Oxenfurt, since I missed my boat,” Yennefer shrugs. “Or I could pull a Geralt and claim the Law of Surprise.”
It’s definitely a joke. She says it with a smirk, for them both to laugh a bit at Geralt’s expense, because the witcher deserves it. Jaskier even starts to snort.
Then the guards catch up with them, and Yennefer punches one of them, and they have to run in different directions to lose them. She never gets the chance to rescind her claim.

Destiny has a twisted sense of humour, and drops a child in Jaskier's lap. A child that Yennefer has claimed by mistake.

Something isn’t quite right. Maybe this is something that all parents or guardians earn with time, but in the few months since acquiring the Child and getting a certain bard back into his life, Geralt hasn’t been able to settle.
But this is different. Nothing lifts his hackles. He has no urge to curl his fingers around the pommel of his sword that lies nearby. But something is...different. Geralt looks around the small camp they’ve made for themselves. Jaskier still sits slouched against his side. Ciri’s perched on a log, her arms tightly hugged around herself.
Or; Geralt finds himself dealing with the troubles of being a guardian.
