And Eddie doesn’t even deserve that from him because they’ve all suffered and he’s just being a fucking baby about it. Because he’s just too weak to pull himself together. Because he desperately needs Steve, and it’s a terrifying feeling. Needing.

Inexplicably, Steve's hand reaches out to touch the carved letters that don’t even spell out Eddie’s real name. “Fuck. Shitty first date. I mean, if you want it to be. Otherwise, it’s just a talk. Guess you’ll have to tell me sometime.” For a heartbeat, he breathes there, pretends, between inhales and exhales, that the scent of Eddie’s cheap cologne, something spicy and soothing, always mixed with earthy weed, twines into the crests of the wind.
Murmurs after a fashion, “I think he just misses you. And I miss you, and I miss him. And if you were here, you could roll your eyes with me and say something dumb, and I’d huff, and he’d groan, and we’d laugh. It’s all just... It’s all just broken now."
