Summary
Tom is pale when he kisses her goodbye that morning, his movements just a bit slower than usual, and she presses the back of her hand to his forehead as he pulls away.
He raises his eyebrows in clear amusement. “I’m not sick, Becca. I just didn’t get much sleep last night.”
She raises her eyebrows right back. “Well, you’re pale. You can’t blame me for worrying, with three boys just getting over the world’s nastiest flu. I’m shocked neither of us has joined the list of casualties, yet.”Written for Bad Things Happen Bingo prompt "Scalding."

Summary
Tom stiffens, fingers clenching in the sides of Anne’s shirt as he pushes away, looks up at her. His eyes burn with the intensity of his stare as he takes her in, searching for discrepancies, afraid to look too closely in case he finds them.
Her brow crumples in concern, hands coming up to cup his face again, this time with all the tender caution of one reaching out to a wild animal. “Tom?”
His breath hitches; he swallows. Stares. “Anne, are you—” even to his own ears, his voice has all the self-assurance of a child waking up from a nightmare, “—are you real?”

Summary
Carter has been missing for thirteen days when a rusted white truck, the bed of it full of Mai-Mai soldiers, pulls in front of the clinic. Luka stands in the doorway, hands freezing where they're still tangled in the towel he was using to wipe them. As he watches, the truck slows in its drive-by, but doesn't stop. One of the soldiers catches Luka's gaze and holds it, his expression unreadable, as he and another throw open the tailgate and a body is unceremoniously rolled out to tumble to the ground in a tangle of limbs and a cloud of dust.
The truck speeds away, and Luka stands frozen.
The man on the ground is white, his build familiar even with the apparent loss of weight.
"Is that…" Angelique has pressed herself against his back to peer over his shoulder.
Luka nods vacantly, unable to force words past the dread in his throat.

Summary
The nurse rests back against the wall and slides to the floor, her chest heaving. When she turns her ghostly white face up to Peter, his stomach drops.
This is no petty personal drama.
“They have guns,” she whispers.
Time seems to stop even as the elevator rumbles with the promise of motion.
“Who has guns?” Peter's voice sounds very far away over the high-pitched hum of dread in his ears.
She sobs. Takes a deep breath. Swallows and points at the door. “There are guys out there. They have guns. They're—they're—they're taking hostages.”
Peter's eyes flick once more to the number over the door just before the car starts to descend.
Eleven.
For a moment he stands there dumbly, abruptly lightheaded.
Carter is on the eleventh floor.
Or, the day after Carter's transplant in 15x19, there is a crisis at Northwestern Memorial. Written for BTHB square "revenge by proxy."
