Ray is usually pretty good with pets. At least that’s what he thinks: he used to walk his neighbours’ dogs back when he was still living with his parents, and he took care of his cousin’s cat for a month and never had any incidents, so he would say he is a natural. So when his friend from work asks him to look after his pet tarantula for a few weeks Ray immediately agrees. It’s just a spider, spiders should be pretty easy to take care of, right?

When Gerard came home for the summer break he thought he would spend the next few months like he always did: hiding in his basement and working on his passion project that would probably never see the light of day. He likes it that way. He has always preferred solitude, even if sometimes it makes him feel like he is going to spend the rest of his life alone, hiding from the world in his parents’ basement.
Mikey, however, had other plans. It seems he had been waiting for Gerard’s return specifically to drag him to every social gathering in Belleville and beyond and he is not going to take no for an answer.Which leads to his current situation.

Gerard doesn’t care about soulmates. He really doesn’t: the entire concept of being tied to someone for the rest of his life makes him uncomfortable on a good day. And besides, people put too much significance into it, making it all sound like being soulmates with someone has an obligatory romantic and-or sexual subtext. Which, obviously, leads to ignoring the fact that most people have bonds with multiple people, and not everything has to be connected with sexuality. It was literally one of the first things in one of those educational books for kids Gerard’s parents bought him when he was old enough to start asking questions they didn’t feel comfortable answering. Soulmate bond is not inherently sexual. One of your close relatives can be your soulmate, it doesn’t mean the relationship itself has to change. Gerard made sure to remember this. Just in case.
