Jinshi was wallowing in the aftermath of his failure of a kiss with Maomao, Basen could tell that something was affecting him badly, he just didn't expect his offer to help to result in him being pressed up against a wall with his lips against his childhood friend's.
Both thinking entirely of the women they wished desperately to kiss, women they would ensure themselves worth kissing when they were granted the chance.

Today, at Jinshi's insistence, he had helped Lady Lishu and ended up kissed by her.

"He told himself that it was different. That there was something that Basen had that no one else did, something that changed things — Basen would never leave him."
Jinshi didn't quite know yet what it truly meant that he had such similar feelings for Basen and Maomao, what consequence might fall from that shared care, just that he needed something that Maomao couldn't give him and that Basen was willing and wanting, if he couldn't claim her at all, then at least he could claim Basen, if only in private.
When he called it practice, he was maybe starting to mean indulgence...
