Gossip raced through the court like wildfire, that Jinshi was not just coughing. It was tuhua, they whispered over the laundry basins and the drying-lines, tuhua that was murmured in the gardens, tuhua when the ambassadors arrived and the elegant eunuch was nowhere to be found (though Maomao knew it was not tuhua that kept him away then, though few would believe what had).
She did catch him in the act, only once, face hidden behind his sleeve. There were no petals, no buds, no whole-blooming flowers in his wake. It was a long-running cold, perhaps an allergy.

When Maomao is dispatched with Jinshi and Gaoshun on a diplomatic mission to the distant kingdom of Hyrule, she anticipates rare herbs, unfamiliar poisons, and maybe a few new diseases to study. She does not expect an elixir made from monster parts, rock-eating people, or a 100-year-old woman who looks Maomao's age.
Maomao finds herself pulled into the local mysteries of Hyrule as Jinshi is pulled into international negotiations. Maomao must navigate Akkala's beaches, volcanic terrain, and a certain non-eunuch who keeps giving her gifts no one else would dare collect.
Set in Hyrule after the events of Tears of the Kingdom, and follows Jinshi and Maomao just before Season 2, Episode 17 of The Apothecary Diaries

After he put an end to the Shi Clan's rebellion, Jinshi's days are long and busy and dull, if not for the small visits he can pay to the apothecary shop at the Verdigris House, where Maomao entertains his presence and his questions with her usual flair.
Maybe, maybe it's just exhaustion, but right there, the simple explanation to a sudden, cryptic death of an officer, and the small object that was left behind, speaks volumes to Jinshi, while for Maomao, of course, it is just science—but is it really?
In the future, maybe, as the days get much darker, that too will take a turn, for him and for her.

Sadly, Maomao got let go as a lady-in-waiting for Lady Gyokuyo. Maomao felt restless; all she could do was to find herbs and head to the quack, but then Jinshi would be on her tail and telling her off, and to take care of herself. To say the least, Maomao was bored to the core. Suiren only asked for help a few times, but not more, as she felt it would only be bothersome for Lady Maomao, as Suiren now called her.

It didn’t make him stupid however, he knew a man like him had no place on a jade throne if that meant he had to hide away as some sparkly flirty eunuch to ensure his brothers heir so be it. The emotions were non stop and constant among his flowers but to Zuigetsu, well Jinshi now, the only thing he felt day in and out was disgust.
Until he saw her, a girl with same look in her eyes as him.
That cloying nothing that wracked his heart held a hold on hers too. Until it didn’t, until he had decided she was now his, something he would wait for her to mirror even if it meant dealing with the obstinate fools that thought her lesser.
He would make them all pay for every single slight, brushed shoulder, too long a gaze, and heaven forbid her tears too.
