Summary
When college admissions came around and his father was on the warpath, Henry was as glacial as ever. Why did it matter what college he went to if he was already intellectually superior to everyone around him? College, to Henry, was an experiment. A study project. He would act as an ordinary eighteen year old and observe the experience. He wanted to see how his interests were taught in an academic setting, as opposed to the private tutoring and personal study he knew.
And that’s how Henry Winter ended up sitting on the edge of a dormitory bed in Hampden, Vermont.

Before Richard Papen came to Hampden college.

Summary
Ah, this was the moment Francis had been waiting for; the moment he would know whether this play would be a triumph or his worst nightmare; his maiden love, his Juliet, was—
In dreadful, soulless black Sharpie was written a name.
HENRY WINTER
Francis stared. He blinked. He removed his pince-nez, cleaned the lens, and replaced them, even though they were plain glass, no prescription.
JULIET………HENRY WINTER
That cleaning had not been sufficient.
There were gasps and exclamations from behind him.
Francis raised his eyes to Mr. Jeffries, the cause of his suffering. His self, his soul, was consumed by one question: Why?
No: How?
No: Goddamn you, Mr. Jeffries, you son of a bitch, how could you do this to me?
Mr. Jeffries grinned. “It would be very unfair to mix anyone else up, so I just made the simplest change!”
Francis was going to expire.
Or, Francis Abernathy, Shakespeare snob, is forced to play Romeo opposite Henry Winter, stuck-up classicist, as Juliet.

Summary
After the events of Hampden College, a traumatized and heartbroken Richard finishes school at Hampden and moves to California, losing touch with Camilla, Charles and Francis in the process. He struggles to find peace in his new life and is haunted by the past, including Henry's death and his unresolved possible romance with Francis. One night, he receives a letter from Francis stating that he is suicidal and that the events of Hampden have caused him to feel hopeless, along with his uncle's new ultimatum.
After Richard flies to Boston to visit Francis, he finds out that Francis is also not quite over him -- and Francis confesses that his feelings are still very real. Richard, grappling with his own issues, realizes his feelings, and attempts to reconcile his friendship, and possibly more, with Francis.

Summary
Richard watched as Francis rowed, biceps straining through his white button up, biting his lip. Richard suddenly felt unwell.
“God, Richard, you look green.” Francis ran a hand through his unruly hair after he set the paddles to rest. “What’s wrong?”
All Richard could think about was the last time the two of them had been out on this boat alone. The way Francis’ hand had felt against his cheek. Richard had left feeling even more confused than he had been before, but telling himself he should be relieved. He wasn’t into Francis; effeminate, charming, queer Francis. And so there should be no more considerations otherwise.
“Nothing.” Richard averted his eyes from the other man’s face and laid back against the wood bottom of the rowboat. “Nothing at all.” He stared at the sky, the water around him sloshing calmly against the sides of the boat.
OR, Richard & Francis have yet another conversation in a rowboat. This time it goes quite differently.

Summary
“I won’t ask you to wait
if you don’t ask me to stay.”Francis visits Richard during the holidays every year. Each year ends differently. They cry. They laugh. They smile. But most importantly, they yearn. Yearn for what would’ve been; what could’ve been; what should’ve been— and what will be.
Loosely based off “‘tis the damn season” by Taylor Swift.

Моя версия неловкого разговора про "вообще-то ты меня не очень привлекаешь". Для удобства предположим, что Фрэнсис вернулся от Коркоранов не под утро, а часа в 3 ночи.
