Tooru’s neediness. His impertinence and brattiness which he seemed to reserve the worst of specially for Hajime. His whining, sobbing, and his constant complaints and pleas. His royal facade falling away as easily as a silk robe, and his silk robes falling down as easily as his tears. His complete vulnerability and honesty that resulted in the situation they were in now. The way he made his feelings clear towards Hajime, and the way he cornered the knight with that confrontation, knowing that Hajime, in his position, had very limited options in retaliation. Tooru exposed himself to Hajime in every feasible way, from undressing in front of the knight on multiple occasions, confessing to him in a drunk stupor on various nights, and begging him to embrace the prince. Feelings weren’t even necessary for Tooru, he just wanted to be touched, to be held.
And all of that was perfect to Hajime as well.

“I almost lost you,” Tooru tells him, each word whispered so quietly that they disappear among the shadows of the room the moment they fall from his lips. There’s a familiar ache in his throat and he attempts to swallow around the tightness that appears to have settled there. As he inhales deeply, Hajime’s fingers brush against his jaw; warmth blooming beneath his fingertips.
“But you didn’t,” Hajime reminds him. “I came back. I will always come back for you.”

“Okay,” Iwaizumi snorts, catching a glimpse of Oikawa’s pout beneath the shelter of his hood. He resists the urge to shoulder check Oikawa’s horse with his own. He’s already toeing the line on the appropriate amount of casualty that can exist between a knight and his prince, and Iwaizumi has always been a man of principle and duty despite an entire childhood flapping behind them like capes.
He wants to snatch his wrist, tell him to ease up, pinch his cheek until it’s pink and free from Oikawa’s teeth, but all he can offer him is his unwavering service. He knows that Oikawa finds value and comfort in his lifelong loyalty, but when Iwaizumi sees him like this, it’s difficult to repress the urge to offer him more.

Wakatoshi clenched his jaw, his heart was thrumming in his chest. Both he and Tooru looked in the direction of the door when they heard three distinct knocks.
Wakatoshi shut his mouth in a line and instantly straightened his body, looking right ahead. The door opened and he unconsciously tightened his grip around the pommel of his sword ever so slightly as he watched Tooru's guest enter the castle's meeting room.
The prince of a neighboring kingdom, Nekoma. The same prince that Tooru's parents arranged the latter's marriage with.
It only takes the threat of an arranged marriage for Tooru and Wakatoshi to sort their feelings out.
