Zach saw her first, stopping dead in his tracks as Shaun was still gazing down at him in a way that normally would have had Zach swooning had a million of his thoughts not been going a mile a minute.
Shaun didn’t immediately recognize her, a figure slumped in and over herself. She was bones, knees jutting out of her legs, and chest concave behind her near-translucent skin. Her hair was shorter, cropped just above her shoulders; too short and too thin to conceal just how pale she had gotten since the last time Shaun had seen her. It wasn’t until she lifted her head up slightly and smiled that Shaun connected the dots. Zach had that same smile.
