This is the story of a man who doesn't believe in his family's bigoted views. But that doesn't mean he is happy being Dumbledore's little pawn. Dumbledore who is the leader of the light faction of the society which is strongly against same sex relationships.
He is pulled from both sides but finds neither of them appealing. The only reason he is a part of this merry band of buffons also knows as OOTP is because he wanted to protect James and family. For he knows that Dumbledore's idea of an ideal society is keeping people ill inforemed so that he could stay at the top. A man who only talks about equal right but has not worked on such despite being a big face after his defeat of Grindlewald.
But the only other option is Voldemort. Sirius would rather be recieving passive agressive comments about his sexuality than willingly kill someone.
