Summary
Running to the frontlines from a childhood he never had. Taking a bat to the wall with his son in the next room. Having an affair with the spitting image of his dead wife.
Eddie knows he’s never been good at grieving, knows he’s never been good at losing what little he allows for himself in the first place. This is why he also knows his coping mechanisms can’t possibly get any worse.
Buck, as he so often does, makes him reevaluate his assumptions.

Summary
Something between them is changing, Eddie realizes. Maybe they won’t be able to talk about it for a while, especially now. They both need to heal. But in the light of all this, it doesn’t seem to matter so much.
What might have scared Eddie a week ago, a few days ago, feels wildly insignificant now. If anything, the inevitability is a sudden, silverlined comfort.

Summary
Buck would rather stab himself in the neck with a fork, thrice, than let Maddie and Eddie say a single word to each other.
His concern is that they will become friends. Allies. Allies United Against Buck. Comrades Who Know Too Much About Buck. A terrifying, powerful joint force that simply cannot ever exist.
He will make sure of it.
Or, so that Maddie and Eddie do not ever mingle, Buck meddles.

Summary
“Eddie,” Buck breathes, laughing humorlessly, his voice wet and thick. “If we sat here and-- and went through the list of things I want…” his hands gesture aimlessly. “We’d-- be here all night.”
Eddie nods, catching Buck’s eyes again. “Maybe-- we start with mine, then.”
The space between them feels charged with static, like the second before the thunder finally rumbles.
-----
Eddie’s finally choosing to be better-- finally choosing joy. He just needs a push or two in the right direction, first.

Summary
“Eddie, you’re scaring me,” Buck says in the quiet of the room. “Do you-- do you know what day it is?”
“Friday,” Eddie answers, tongue thick like his throat is stuffed with cotton.
“Yeah,” Buck confirms. “And-- do you know my full name?”
Eddie swallows. “Evan Buckley,” he says definitively, but--
He finally turns to look at Buck’s face, and it’s like he’s waiting for Eddie to keep going. Like Eddie had gotten it wrong. Buck’s face melts, his brows pinched together, and Eddie--
He doesn’t know what the hell is going on.
-----
Eddie loves every version of Buck. And Buck? Well, he’s starting to realize every version of Buck loves him right back. If only Eddie could get back home to tell him that.
