    They did not call it a game at first. It was an experiment.

    By their standards, it was a simple construct. A closed world with a finite population, and a rule set designed to narrow possibility until only conflict remained: three lives with no escape. Scarcity would do the rest. It always did.

    They watched the world spin into being—crude, bright, and uncomplicated. It was a world of grass, stone, sand and trees that did not know they would burn. 

    Players woke with no memory of arrival, only a faint, instinctive certainty that death mattered now.

    The Life Series was never a game, but an experiment designed to strip players down to fear, conflict and obedience. Again and again, the Watchers refine their cruelty, only to be thwarted by players who refuse to break. From Grian's instinctive defiance to Martyn's resistance to erasure, each season contains anomalies the system can't fully contain. Then as the Listeners emerge and the Watchers slowly lose control, it becomes clear that the experiment is no longer one-sided.

    Evil X and Xisuma are identical twins, even down to the matching birthmark on their faces in the shape of an X.

    And unfortunately, Evil X was sick of it.

    Evil X got more sick of it when even when he was redeemed, the hermits couldn't seem to think of him as anything but an extension of Xisuma.

    proverb - A person who wanders or travels often and at length will not be burdened by attachments such as friends, family, or possessions.

    Bdubs has done well for himself, thank you very much! He's got a ship, he's got business, he's got friends! A man needs nothing more in the grand universe.

    It's hard being a human in the great beyond; a new species to the intergalactic community means poachers, a black market, and an everpresent danger.

    The solution? Simple! Don't be a human.

    Obviously, it's not going to be as easy as that. Not when he finds himself joining the crew of the Hermit Craft, not when he learns he's not quite alone.
