Summary
Six months after the events of The Nice Guys, life's going pretty smoothly for both Holland March and Jackson Healy. Going to work, solving cases, pissing a lot of people off, but hey, no one got hurt.
Until one night, Healy drives March home. The sweet, undeniable tension between them finally pops.
"I said I'm serious 'bout takin' you to dinner." Healy says. "You got anywhere you wanna go?"
March exhales. He takes a step back. Looks around, then back at Healy. He smiles.
"Heyyy, aren't you that diner guy?"

Summary
Holland March isn't in denial. He knows he likes men, okay? And he's fine with it, really, he is. Even if he doesn't exactly act on it that often.
But being attracted to Jackson fucking Healy? His business partner, housemate, and—let's face it—best friend, who's nearly two decades older than him? The ex-bruiser who was already kind of fat before he went and broke his leg and gained like thirty more pounds on top of it?
And what does it say about March that he wants Healy even more now?
Yeah, he thinks it's understandable to have a bit of a crisis about that.
(In other words: Holland "I didn't know I was into that" March learns several things about himself when he accepts that he wants to fuck that old man.)

Summary
Ryland Grace has lost everything: his career, his home, his reputation, and the brother who stopped answering when he needed him most. When a beautiful stranger offers him coffee on a freezing night, Ryland is too exhausted to wonder why the man looks at him like a ghost.
He wakes underground.
===
Tom Ryder remembers the end of the world.
He remembers the cold, the hunger, the wars, the dying sun. He remembers Ryland Grace vanishing into space aboard the Hail Mary. Most of all, he remembers loving him — and losing him.
When Tom wakes in the past, before Ryland knows him, before the Petrova line, before the mission that will take him away, he decides that grief has made him wiser than morality. He builds a hidden refuge beneath the Nevada desert, stocked with everything Ryland will need to solve the astrophage problem before the world comes calling.
Then he kidnaps him.
