No serious hockey fan or sports commentator worth their salt would have considered record-breaking Boston superstar Ilya Rozanov to be Shane Hollander’s rival exactly, but sleeping with a man who had a specific offense-related vendetta against him and a wrist shot like a jet engine to back it up was probably ill-advised just the same.
Or, Shane is a goalie. Ilya can’t score.

Shane loves playing hockey but the pressure of being a center is just too much. A goalie coach at a summer camp suggests maybe changing his position could being the joy back into it.
Being a goalie may be less glamorous but the routines and allowances for quirks are exactly what he needs, even if it's a much less glamorous spot.
He's a damn good goalie, and Ilya respects it, he also thinks this little stat encyclopedia is kind of adorable when they meet at WJC.Mostly follows canon so far, but there are some peripheral changes that are having a big impact. I kind of love it. Also the author is an actual hockey nerd, which makes it so much better.

A few instances of being defensive and scared may backtrack for a moment, but the intimacy and safety of those days in Sochi being things to a head sooner than canon. The cottage three years early.
