Summary
They said Katara was lonely. That her sweetheart scarcely sent letters once every few months, far too focused on the rebuilding efforts in the north. She was betrothed and Aang needed to respect it and he wanted to die, leaning there against the ginkgo as she laughed up at the rain.
Wondering was a terrible path. He took it often.
In which Aang is ridiculously, over-the-moon in love with fellow city council member (and his friend) Katara. It's just too bad she's engaged to someone else.

“Maybe someday you and Katara will hold a celebration of your own,” Hakoda added, the remark almost casual. It tilted the ground beneath Aang’s feet, and he stumbled awkwardly across the paving stones.
“Er, I mean, I’m sure—”
Hakoda laughed and slapped him on the back. “No rush, of course, you are both still very young. Plenty of time for weddings later.”
Aang felt rather faint as he nodded. “Right of course…later…weddings.”
