Perhaps this is a tale of redemption and defiance against darkness.
Perhaps....
But Regulus is selfish. He is selfish in his love.
And there is no one Regulus loved more than his James.
Even if he was betrayed.... and even if James probably hadn't had loved him before he died.... Regulus would remain loyal to his love.
So when he is saved from a watery abyss by his mentor, Regulus discovers shocking truths about his heritage and the disgusting truths behind that dreaded Halloween night.
And he kind of ends up kidnapping Harry from those despicable muggles.
Regulus loved James. And so he would love his beloved's son and raise him as his own.
Preferably with his mentor, who acted like a mother-hen more than Kreacher did.
Honestly... he was twenty-one, Regulus wasn't going to just drop dead if they stopped protecting him.
....well hopefully not.

Summary
There was only so much Harry could take before he fell apart completely.
However Harry luck strikes again and he ends up unfortunately... or fortunately (for him at least) dead.
Which also ends up completly changing his entire worldview in the mere minutes he had to meet Death.
Apparently he'd been kidnapped as a baby? He wasn't even human? He'd been kidnapped across dimensions?!
Yeah no, Harry needed a couple centuries to cope with this new information immediately (and he could apparently do that because Dragels were near immortal so he could ruminate on all this new information for centuries if he so well pleased).
So yeah he and Teddy are on an adventure now (because he'd rather die again then leave his godson behind)..... and yep they weren't being forced to do this by Death at all..... nope.....not one bit.

So James Potter had a problem.
Well not a problem per se. Because Harry is adorable and would never be a problem to him.
Only issue is, Harry was born a couple hours ago and he’s still a dragon. And yes his baby is adorable and James can barely breathe from how cute his child is.
But still….. dragon babies aren’t normal in the wizarding world. So James needs to get help.
And that help comes in the form of the sinfully handsome blue haired man he and Lily spent a night with… and yes the goblin nation was involved too.
James didn’t even want to mention the fact that they were all apparently dragels…. who had been sealed against their wills.
Or the soul shaking scream he’d given.
