Summary
In the fair kingdom of Pownal, Prince Ray is born to Queen Ginnie. One fateful night he gets taken away and is to live in a tower for the rest of his days, away from the outside. For his safety his 'father' says.
One day, a thief—Peter McVries—stumbles into the the tower to hide from Barkovitch, the horse that kept on chasing him for stealing the missing prince's crown.
So a promise is made, Peter is to take Ray to see the floating lanterns and he gets his crown back. Simple as that.

“I’m really sorry, Pete. We’ll have all day tomorrow after my final. Okay?”
Not okay, but Pete couldn’t exactly say that without sounding like a dick. He brought his hands to Ray’s shoulders, humming when he felt how tense they were.
“You’re tense, baby,” Pete whispered into Ray’s ear, silently delighting in the shiver he felt go throughout Ray. “I can help with that. You won’t even have to look up from your textbooks.”
Or, Pete spends all day thinking about coming home to his boyfriend, only for Ray to be too busy studying for a final to give him attention. Pete decides to change that.

Pete's laying on the couch, writing, when he suddenly realizes that on top of the weird behavior—the face-down phone, the money—Ray hasn't kissed him in two days. Forty-eight hours is, truly, nothing, but Ray's never been stingy with physical affection. Pete certainly isn't. He starts, quietly, to spiral, the poem on the page stopping midsentence as he sits up. Was he making Ray uncomfortable, with all the hugs and kisses and flirting? Did Ray even like him anymore?

Pete tilted his head slightly. “One more thing? You already crossed half the state for this.”
“That part was for me.” Ray breathed in, steady. “Now I want to ask for something to mark the moment. So I’ll remember this really happened.”
Pete crossed his arms, curious. “And what would that be?”
Ray hesitated for long seconds, biting his lower lip, a gesture that seemed involuntary, almost childish, but dangerous in its sincerity.
“Could you…” He swallowed hard, blushing all the way to his ears. “Sign my tits?”.

Ray breathed in, feeling the tiredness of the day crash onto him. His eyes felt heavy and his ears wouldn’t stop ringing, but Ray couldn’t stop smiling as he leaned against the fence, already imagining his mother’s cheerful tone when he told him about what had just happened.
He felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around, startled. A female security guard was staring at him with an unreadable expression.
“Ray Garraty?” she asked. Ray nodded and she did the same. “I have been asked to take you backstage”or: Ray goes to Pete McVries' concert.
