Summary
The bumper caught him hard enough to lift him off of his feet. Pain exploded through his hip.
Buck flew backwards, a wordless scream leaving his mouth at the fire running through his hip and down his leg.
When he landed on solid ground again, flat on his back, the wind was knocked out of his lungs. Sharp pain exploded everywhere.
And then he was rolling.
Rolling.
Rolling.
The world flew past him in fragments as he tumbled down the steep slope towards the ravine.
OR: After dropping the lawsuit, Buck takes up running to escape the silence of his loft. One rainy day changes everything.

Summary
"Are you married?”
Christopher coughed so hard he nearly dropped his phone.
Buck choked on nothing.
Eddie said, “No.”
Theo turned to Buck. “Why?”
Buck’s mouth opened.
Eddie got there first. “Because you have to ask someone before you marry them.”
Theo considered this.
Then he looked at Buck. “Did you ask?”
“No,” Buck said quickly.
Theo looked at Eddie. “Did you ask?”
“No.”
“Why?”
Christopher whispered, “Great question.”

Summary
“A star?” he whispered.
Eddie nodded slowly. “Yeah.”
“A silver one?”
“Yes.”
Theo turned to Buck, whispering louder. “Buck.”
“I know.”
“Buck.”
“Yeah.”
“He has a star.”
Buck’s expression shifted before he could stop it. Pride first. Then something warmer underneath, something Eddie did not have the emotional bandwidth to inspect too closely.
“I know,” Buck said softly.
Then, because Buck had apparently decided Eddie didn’t deserve to survive dinner, he added, “Eddie’s kind of a big deal.”

Summary
“They asked us to share something interesting about our families.”
“And you—” Eddie stops, presses his lips together, then flicks a hand toward him. “You went with my imaginary engagement.”
Christopher finally puts his phone away. “I didn’t say you were engaged.”
“You told everyone I have a firefighter boyfriend.”
“Yeah.”
Eddie lifts a hand. “Which firefighter?”
Christopher gives him a look.
Eddie waits.
The look continues.
He lets his hand fall. “Christopher.”
“Who do you think?”
“I’m asking you.”
Christopher shifts one crutch against the wall and gestures vaguely at Eddie, like the answer should be somewhere on his person. “Buck.”
Or Chris tells his science club that Buck and Eddie are basically married
