“San Lang?” Xie Lian asks as he wiggles closer to Hua Cheng in the dark room, under the blanket.
“Mn?” Hua Cheng pulls Xie Lian closer on his waist, enveloping him with his warmth.
“What do you think about what Shi Qingxuan said earlier?” Xie Lian wraps his arm around Hua Cheng in return, hugging his torso and burying his face in Hua Cheng’s neck.
“Which one?” Hua Cheng replies while nuzzling the top of Xie Lian’s head.
“About us being too close like we’re love birds…”

Oh, wow, what amazing words to replace the good ol’ good morning. To say Hua Cheng is flattered is a major understatement. Except he isn’t. He’s pissed. And angry. And furious. And so very tired of this bullshit he wonders why he even tries.
He glances at the little girl absentmindedly petting E’Ming’s fur in the garden. The frustration diminishes a little bit. He remembers why he’s still trying.

Hua Cheng stared at him. It was like he didn't know what to say, like he was nervous. Closing the space between them, Hua Cheng wrapped an arm around Xie Lian's waist and pressed their bodies together. There was a shyness to his laughter, and yet his voice remained sultry when he said, "I'm spending the evening with you. Isn't that reason enough?"

Xie Lian only laughed again.
Back then, he thought this was just an adorable child who'd forget on his own eventually.
Or, at worst, something they could tease each other about in the future.
He had even imagined—
"Hey, you once proposed to me, you know!"
And the boy would turn red, embarrassed, maybe even angry, telling Xie Lian he should've forgotten all about it by now.
