Pero a diferencia de aquellas otras noches, él se llevaba a casa algo mucho más rico que la esperanza.

Su teléfono sonó, lo abrió y sonrió nuevamente para ver solo dos emojis del nuevo contacto de Kagome: una sonrisa sonrojada y un corazón rojo brillante.

Durante todo el camino a casa, había estado pensando en lo frágil que era. Una caída la había hecho sangrar. Una torcedura de tobillo estúpida le rompería el hueso. Un paso en falso y moriría. Qué descubrimiento tan inquietante. A Tomoe se le revolvió el estómago.
Observó a la chica de los fuegos fatuos. Los alzó en brazos, asegurándoles que estaba bien. La adularon, maldiciendo a la serpiente, alabando a Tomoe y luego maldiciendo aún más a Mizuki.
Tomoe observaba en silencio. Nanami sonreía de oreja a oreja, diciéndoles a los espíritus que Mizuki simplemente se sentía sola (Tomoe lo calificó de mentira), pero coincidía en que Tomoe había sido genial por volver a ser la heroína. Cómo no podía preocuparse por su frágil humanidad después de que todo la volviera loca. ¿Cómo vivían así? ¿Acaso los humanos desconocen la delicadeza de sus cuerpos? ¿O simplemente les da igual?

Por alguna razón, eso parecía poner nerviosa a Inuyasha. Se preguntó si sería por cómo habían dormido la noche anterior. Su corazón le decía que no se opondría a que esos arreglos para dormir fueran permanentes, pero se contuvo y siguió avanzando con paso firme por el bosque.
"Esperar."
Ella miró hacia atrás. Inuyasha observaba fijamente los árboles a su izquierda, con el ceño fruncido. Se mordió el labio para no sonreír de lo gracioso que se veía mientras aún llevaba la corona de flores que le había hecho.
"Apuesto a que ni siquiera se da cuenta de que se lo puse".

"Simplemente no me pareció bien seguir adelante." Kagome extendió la mano para apretarle la rodilla, tanto para asegurarle que estaba bien como para su propio consuelo. "Ahora que lo pienso, creo que pretendía usar la mano de otra persona para deshacerse de mí, pero en ese momento, pensé que la prueba de reemplazo era solo para matar a un youkai más fuerte y demostrar mi valía.
Casi muero, pero Inuyasha apareció. —Le dedicó una pequeña sonrisa al semidemonio—. Y luego nos enfrentamos a Masae, y purifiqué este extraño montaje con un montón de cristales. Ni yo misma lo entiendo bien. Me gustaría preguntarle a Kaede-sama al respecto.

Otra larga serie de improperios se esparció por la brisa, con el telón de fondo de lo que, de otro modo, habría sido un hermoso día de finales de primavera, justo en la cúspide del verano.
Inuyasha frotó el suelo. Como si le ofendiera personalmente.
Con un hanyou no se hacen planes . En serio, qué carajo.
Sinceramente, no recordaba la última vez que alguien había querido verlo a una hora determinada y sería un error que no apareciera.
Esto se sintió extraño.
