“Right,” Henry sighs. “That is very sweet of you, Alex. But I’ve already turned down one offer from a potential wingman tonight and I’m not likely to accept another. I’m very capable of finding men on my own if I decide I want to start looking.”
“Yeah, I don’t doubt that. I mean, look at you,” Alex says, gesturing towards Henry. It’s incredibly flattering, even if it is just an objective observation. “That’s not what I was saying.”
“What are you saying?” Henry asks, not unkindly. He would love to understand what is going on in that beautiful, chaotic brain of Alex’s.
“I’m trying to shoot my shot. But full disclosure, I’m a little overwhelmed so, like, please bear with me,” Alex says, running a hand through his hair again. He really is making a mess of those curls.

“Hey, dude? Are you okay? I asked you what you wanted,” Adonis asks whilst waving his hands in front of Henry’s face. Adonis’s own face displaying a mix of impatience and amusement.
“I want... I need-” Henry feels his words haltingly tumbling out, and he turns to Pez, his go-to in emergency situations of 101 gay panic, and casts imploring eyes in his direction, “I need to get out of here!”
And with that, Henry finds himself fleeing like a scalded cockerel from his scene of utter humiliation. Any remaining pride left in tatters on a black and white checkerboard floor in the pastel pink and blue ice cream parlour.
Fucking hell.

The ice cream shop Henry, Pez and Bea visit while on holiday has a very attractive, very hostile person behind the counter. Of course Henry can't help but fall hook, line and sinker for the man.
From his side of the counter, Alex can't stand the British snob that frequents his store, even if he is ridiculously handsome.AKA : how a man loses an ice cream but gains something infinitely sweeter.

Alex is lost. The next logical step would be to try to track him down, like, in person. But he’s not going to do that. That’s insane behavior. Those are the actions of someone who doesn’t know how to take a hint, even though Alex can’t scrub the words you’re incredible from his mind. He’s folded and refolded the note a hundred times in an effort to forget.
James wouldn’t write that if he didn’t mean it. Right?
But Alex is not, he is not, going to prowl around the city with irrational optimism that James will also be out on the same street.
He's not that desperate.
