Summary
Harry stumbles across a strange room with a strange man in it, one who doesn't recognize him at all. To Harry, a sudden celebrity, it's a wonder beyond wonders. He latches onto this man, the only one who treats him like a normal student and the only one who is kind to him in this strange place, and vows to do whatever he can to help him escape his prison.

Voldemort rewards all those who serve him faithfully, even if they happen to also be the one who condemned his primary body to an existence as a wraith. That he gets to fulfill his desire to teach and pull one over on Albus Dumbledore is really a bonus. And if the price to pay for it is to become the magical guardian of a child, then so be it.

"Why didn't you show up last night?"
Hopper's voice.
Eddie peered around the corner.
The corridor opened into a wider space, some kind of storage junction where boxes were stacked against the walls. Steve stood in the middle of it, and Jesus Christ, he looked worse up close. His hands gripped the hem of his shirt, knuckles white, and there was a tremor running through him that Eddie could see even from fifteen feet away.
"I—I had to work late, I'm—"
"Don't lie."
Hopper moved forward, and Steve flinched.
Eddie's jaw clenched so hard his teeth ached.
The chief was a big man, and he used every inch of that size now, crowding into Steve's space until the kid had nowhere to go. One massive hand shot out, gripping Steve's chin, forcing his head up.
"You get your ass to my place tonight or you kiss that basketball scholarship goodbye, you hear me?"

Summary
When it was all over - after Eddie’s funeral, after Max was declared stable but comatose, after the town cracked open like an egg - Steve collapsed.
When the doctor revealed that he was suffering from “Separation Syndrome” after being separated from his alpha so soon after mating, Steve knew there had to be some kind of mistake.
After all, the only thing that had been near his mating patch had been the demobats in the Upside Down, and there was no way that meant anything.
