There was a wall of rock behind Cait, its coldness seeping through her clothes. In front of her, warm, there was Vi. There was so little space that any step she took, in either direction, would lead to a collision.
“No,” she decided.
Tunnels in your eyes, lava in your veins, shadows in your heart, Ambessa had said.
Cait was pretty sure this wasn't the kind of fire she was referring to.

She admires one crack along the wall behind the other bed and waits patiently for Villanelle to gather her thoughts.
When she finally voices them, they come out uncharacteristically hesitant, “I don't know… I suppose it would depend on the circumstances. Why do you want to know?”
