Summary
The new world is almost perfect.
Emphasis on 'almost'.
It's been nearly a year since Nimona sacrificed herself, the Director and her plan were destroyed along with the wall that kept the kingdom secluded in fear, and the city is almost completely rebuilt. Ballister and Ambrosius have talked things out, albeit it took a few months to get all their tears, fears, and insecurities out. But they came out on top, just like they always do. They even got couples counseling, and now things are almost back to normal.
Nimona is back (though staying low in Ballisters' and her old lair), Ballister and Ambrosius are busy with being knights and the rebuilding effort but always make time for each other, and the kingdom is flourishing.
But there's still that 'almost' bit. The bit that Ballister can't seem to quite chase away, no matter how hard he tries to keep it suppressed. And it doesn't help that the fact is glaringly obvious, blinding him nearly every time he and Ambrosius kiss.
He's horny.
They haven't done anything in months.
And he wants to be fucked.

Summary
Kevin remembers warning Jean off of men by using Jeremy’s story. He remembers killing his own attraction where it grew. He remembers staying awake at night, silently trying to carve the love out of him with Riko just a few feet away, asleep. He remembers using Thea in an attempt to fix himself.
All of that was for nothing, because now Kevin is sitting between Jean and Jeremy, who are together. Sitting in front of Jean, and struggling to breathe normally with his body so close, radiating heat like a neutron star, a hand always moving back to Kevin’s hip. All of it was for nothing, because Jeremy is right there, so competent and strong and fucking kind. He won’t stop checking to make sure the ropes are comfortable, glancing up to smile every few moments like Kevin is even worthy of it.

Summary
Being on different professional Exy teams means Neil is familiar with time spent apart from Andrew.
