When Hector Dagworth-Granger's son turns out to be a squib, he turns to a fellow member of the Most Extraordinary Society of Potioneers for help. Knowing it might take generations for magic to return to his line, he worries that his descendent might face discriminations as a muggleborn. Thus, he and Fleamont Potter sign a betrothal contract for the next magical Dagworth-Granger and a Potter Heir. Surprisingly, it doesn’t take many generations for Hermione to be born. And fortunately, just under a year later, Fleamont’s grandson is born.

If some spiritus version of himself would linger on this side of the veil to watch her move through life, forever incapable of moving on because he’d denied himself the chance to kiss her goodbye.
But she was in good hands. The Weasleys would take care of her if he didn’t make it back. They’d keep her safe, but nobody, nothing could keep her safe for good unless and until every man and woman who had ever donned a silver mask or held their forearm aloft to be marked by a maniacal monster fell.
Or, at the very least, until the monster himself faded into dust, and the people who stood by watching his girl be tortured paid for their sins.
