It's horribly shaky and loud when it comes out. When he opens his eyes again he sees white. The plain, off-white the resort house was made out of. He registers the sound of Garroth snoring, loud and grating in his ears. The sound causes him to sink further into the bed underneath him.
He never thought he'd be relieved at the sound of Garroth snoring.

The thing that stuck with him the most was the smell. Sure, yeah the image was horrifying. But the smell— it lingered. Even after he scrubbed the floorboards and lit candles and put flowers everywhere—he could still smell it. The horrible, disgusting stench of blood and feces. Seppuku is the act of disemboweling oneself. There are many reasons for committing such an act, but in the case of his father it was done in an attempt to atone. He disgraced his village, his people, and his clan. So he needed to atone, and his way of doing that was committing seppuku.

Why does he feel so jealous? Is it because Gene isn't miserable like him? Plagued with the guilt and shame of what he did? Is it because everyone else warmed up to him so quickly? It took everyone a year to even begin to tolerate him.
He doesn't deserve it. He doesn't deserve it one bit. He deserves nothing but the worst– Zane stops that train of thought. Aphmau.. she likes him. She trusts him. So Zane has to as well, right? Right?

His head hurt, and felt all fuzzy. For a moment he thought maybe it was a concussion, but he hasn't hit his head recently. So he had no reason to have a concussion, or really any head Injury. So maybe he just had a minor headache. That's fine, he can handle that.
He's worked under harsher conditions when he was still training to be a guard, so a small headache wasn't a problem.

Enjin was not, had never been, and would likely never be a dad - regardless of the fact that he legally had kids. Except .. it just so happened that when one of those kids lost himself to a headspace smaller than usual, Enjin sort of did become a dad. That was okay, he could be a dad sometimes.
