As soon as he takes notice of her panicked expression, she’s wrapped in the comfort of his arms; she shakes her head and whispers, “I shouldn’t be here— it should’ve worked, I shouldn’t be here—“ the same way she whispered the incantation that was meant to save her life; desperately, hopelessly, praying Bonnie can hear her whispered words one thousand years away."

When Elena feels her humanity returning she finds herself focusing on having finally been free from the Salvatore brothers, and doesn't abandon her justified anger. Unfortunately, she also realizes that her sire bond to Damon isn't fully broken and goes to Rebekah for help, help that involves a little trip to New Orleans.
On the way, Elena will have to deal with her newly returned humanity as well as some long-awaited truths about Caroline's old relationship with the older Salvatore.
There are some things that even the most compassionate person could never forgive.

Summary
Spike never has behaved the way Buffy expected... not even when he's a feral demon.
At the end of 'Lover's Walk,' instead of sending his goons to fight Spike, Mayor Wilkins sends them to capture him. When they return with the vampire and a bonus Slayer, Wilkins injects them with some new drugs he got from Professor Walsh over at the university. With Buffy stripped of her strength and Spike stripped of his human traits, all the Mayor has to do is lock them in a room and let the Slayer of Slayers do what he does best.
Buffy wakes up weak, injured, in chains, and at the complete mercy of her mortal enemy. Yet instead of torturing and killing her, Spike frees her and tends her wounds. She can't ask him why, because he's nonverbal. The two of them form a bond, depending on each other to escape.
