Summary
His Grace, King Stannis, first of his name, knows this game well: war and all its complexities. He has trained for this, he has the experience to win this battle. If all his various irritants leave him alone to plan, that is.
And if all falls into place, he will win. But after the Battle is won, after he is sat upon the Iron Throne, with his crown upon his head, after the wounds are healing, what then?

Summary
At no point in the accidental usurpation of Thorin as leader of The Company and the quest for Erebor, did Bilbo intend for this to turn into an exploration of cultural differences (and something that almost feels like group therapy). For some reason, the Dwarrows aren't complaining, and Bilbo isn't going to question it, as long as the lumoxes behave themselves and do as they're told.
Who knows, they all might yet survive this insane journey.
(Or, where Bilbo decides the Dwarves are all too stupid for him to endure this ridiculousness anymore and Does It Hobbit and the Dwarves suddenly get affectionate.)

(Orphaned) Two months. Alex just has to make it two months at the Washingtons'. Then he'll be sent back to live with Mr. Pace again. If he can't make it two months, he'll go to juvie instead. And if he goes to juvie, he won't get into college. That much, he's sure of.
So he will make this work. He'll keep his hands clean and his mouth shut. He'll get along with their adopted son. He'll do whatever the hell they tell him to. He'll take whatever beatings they dole out―and he knows they will eventually. He'll make it two months here, then another year with Pace, and then he'll be eighteen and can run away to college.
But he didn't sign up for love, support, and three unfairly attractive best friends.
