Summary
He completely pulls the charger from the wall as he fumbles to put in his passcode. He doesn’t know who to call first. Everyone is busy, carrying on with their lives and Buck is stuck here in the loft with the terrifying ghost of his childhood like an omen. Out of the corner of his eye he catches the Crooked Smiled Man now standing in the dark entrance way to his bathroom. He swallows around the taste of blood in his mouth, hands shaking, useless as his list of contacts blur beneath the burn of tears.
Eddie Eddie Eddie
He doesn’t know where the feeling comes from, but it’s sudden and sharp and excruciating. Eddie is the first name at the top of his list, his most recent calls and texts, and he doesn’t hesitate to hit the call button.

Summary
It’s Buck. That’s Buck.
But just beneath the things that make him soft and fond and fill him with a yearning he’s never known before there's a darkness. It’s the unmistakable stench of death and decay that seeps down the back of his throat, like he’s suddenly choking on his own blood.
His traitorous heart wants to give into the pull, but his senses — his instincts — sharply remind him that right now it’s all an illusion.
It’s Buck.
But it isn’t.

Summary
Now he needs to become their leader, the face, the embodiment of the revolution — the Mockingjay.
Sometimes he wonders if they forget that he’s only seventeen years old.
“We need the Districts to know that you are alive and well,” Abby adds when Sue finishes her pitch, “to unite them against our common enemy.”
Eddie lets it sit for a moment, his fingers twitching to reach for the pearl burning a hole in his pocket. He can feel the word in his mouth, turning it over and over like Buck’s pearl.
“No.” He finally says.
Neither look surprised by his answer, in fact, Sue looks downright determined, like she’s finally found a challenge worthy of her game-making abilities.
“Eddie,” she says in a voice that’s supposed to be calm and soothing, but it grates at his nerves, “the Districts are only going to rally behind someone that started this revolution.”
He grinds his teeth. “Then you should’ve saved Buck,” he says, his voice dark and twisted.

Summary
“Most babies are born as accidents,” She says suddenly, like she’s decided that Buck has passed, that she can trust him with this.
Buck doesn’t really have an answer because that question hits way to fucking close to home. A year or so ago he would have said, yes, I was an accident, so I know how that goes, but Buck knows better now. Knows that he would almost give anything for that answer to still be yes. Evie’s finger works under the seal to rip it open, a stack of important looking papers dumping out onto the table in front of her.
“Not me,” she says without looking up as she organizes them into a neat stack, “I was engineered.”
And.
And Buck’s pretty fucking sure a giant, cataclysmic hole has ripped right open, dragging him down to the earth’s core where he vaporizes into dust.

Summary
“I’m sorry,” Eddie says, putting the glass of water down. He’s shaking, too, Buck can’t help but notice. Buck wants to reach out, but he literally cannot move, and he lets Eddie step away, walking back to his chair and he falls back on it. “Sorry,” he says again, his voice barely a breath.
Buck shakes his head, opening his mouth to say something but nothing comes out. What can he say, really? Sorry, Eds, I thought you were my kidnapper standing over me! So he sighs, head going down to his chest and he winces, both from the pain and from bringing that hurt look on his best friend’s face. “I-I got startled,” he says, voice creaking as he speaks.
Eddie waves him off, “It’s-It’s okay,” stutters, fidgeting with his fingers. “I got close,” he says, gesturing to him, the bed and the glass of water on the table. A moment of silence passes
