“Oh. Um. Why?” Shane did not think Ilya was going to glean any interesting information from that. Shane liked his routines, and his routines included his apartment, the Bell Centre, and his now rerouted running trail.
“There is a man stalking you all over Montreal, in case you have forgotten.” Ilya arches an eyebrow, his mouth pinching unhappily at the corner.
Or: Shane acquires a stalker from that night in Mexico. He tries to deal with it alone, until he no longer can.

Shane swallows. His mouth is dry from the wine. “Yeah.”
Hunter’s eyes are molten in the low light. “Shane. Do you wanna come upstairs?”
Shane is momentarily distracted by the way Hunter’s accent curls around his first name, but then the question registers and the realisation hits him like a lightning bolt. The words might be different, but the play is the same. I might open. I might knock.
It’s a scene straight from his teenage daydreams, and it’s terrifying and electrifying all at once.
“Yes,” he blurts.

After the unmitigated disaster that is their conversation in Sochi, Shane decides that he's done with Ilya Rozanov once and for all. Scott Hunter, eager to make amends for their fight on the ice, proves a convenient distraction.
Reconciliation leads to realisations lead to a hotel room, and Shane ends up sleeping with Hunter on the same day Rozanov tells him we aren't anything.
What he doesn't know is that Ilya's hotel room is right next to Hunter's. And Ilya is completely, totally, absolutely normal about this.

Roz stares across at his husband then shrugs. “You are bluffing. Is fine, go ahead. There is nothing anyway, you can’t win.”
“Well, I was just thinking,” Hollander says, “that the guys might be interested to hear that you...have a type?” Marly could swear Shane’s eyes glanced in the direction of Scott Hunter. Could swear too that Roz tracked the movement.

Ah. Right. Excellent. This is not, in fact, a picture of a dog. This is an announcement from Ilya that he got laid.
Shane sighs. Wonderful.
Perhaps he'll send back a picture of a dog, since Ilya seems to like them so much.
