Summary
Upon investigating a moon that appeared in Erid's orbit, Adrian is given a leaky space blob by a tree that reflects their long-missing mate in more ways than one and hails from a starless universe. Simon, finding a new community on Erid, is more than willing to help them out with space travel and make himself useful in hopes they'll never go through what he did.
AT-5 is still up there, waiting for its wayward son.A couple of years later, Grace and Rocky arrive with taumoeba and all of Earth's knowledge.

I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

A Project: Hail Mary fic by nopaintjustpain, “The Wire Mother”
The trip to Erid is already stressful, with the return of Grace’s memories, the oncoming inevitable starvation, impending chances of death, and another projected four years existence in an enclosed space. The recollection of his grandmother - her presence, the warmth it brought him, the memory of touch most of all - bring to light another problem.
Aka Grace and Rocky learn just how much touch starvation can fuck with a person while also dealing with the side effects of deliberately starving yourself and intense trauma.
