Summary
"So you like him?" Smoker insisted on the topic, and she was so tired and bloody and dying for some peace that she indulged his curiosity. She had no strength left anyway.
Maybe those words exchanged in that confessional disguised as a rotten prison cell were her own road to peace.
"Yes,” was her weak reply. In all truth, there was no dishonest bone in her body.

Summary
Her amusement was hard to hide as she leaned against the bars. “You’re kidding.”
The klutz inside scrambled off the bench, dislodging two passed-out drunkards who promptly collapsed into a heap. He grabbed the bars desperately, and Toph could practically hear his mortification.
“Toph! Toph, oh—you—thank the spirits.”
She cocked her head, unable to rid herself of the teasing smile that had taken residence on her face. “Well, hello to you, too, Snoozles. How lovely it is to hear you in such distress.”
“Please tell me you can get me out of here,” Sokka begged desperately. “I need to get out.”
“That depends on what you did to get yourself in here.”
[or Sokka gets himself arrested after returning from six months away, Toph catches up with him, and they talk about things she doesn't fancy talking about.]

Summary
Braids and knots are a way of life in the Water Tribes. They use them to make cordage, nets, and traps, but they also use them in their art—and in their hair. Katara knows braids, and using her skill sets to help others is what she does. It’s who she is.
Which totally explains why she is currently sitting on her hands as she watches Zuko try to hold a council meeting with his hair in his eyes.
It's because she's a good friend who wants to use her skills to help out, and not because she's been itching to sink her fingers into Zuko's gorgeous Fire Nation hair for weeks... right?

“Is, uh, this seat taken?”
Yes. She wanted to say yes. But also, she knew just how horrible it was to stand around, waiting for a vacancy when all you wanted to do was drink coffee or tea or whatever. She also didn’t care, so long as this guy kept to himself; he could have the chair, so she wordlessly gestured at it to say so.
“Cool, coolcoolcool,” the guy muttered, then cursed under his breath. The chair scraped loudly as he pulled it back and slid into it with all the grace of a hippo cow on ice. “Thanks, I mean—uh, sorry. I’ll be quiet. I’m quiet.”
[ or When she works from home, Toph works from a coffee shop. Sokka likes coffee at a very specific coffee shop. When it’s full one day, he asks her if a seat at her table is taken, and she almost bites his head off.]

Summary
Toph gasps, not having anticipated the sudden gesture, and clutches his shoulders. “What the—what are you doing?”
“I’m carrying you to the clinic,” Sokka replies breathlessly. “What does it look like?”
“No—Sokka, you can’t carry me to the clinic.”
“Yes, I can!” he protests, panting a bit as he speed-walks toward their destination. “And I will because you’re having a baby.”
Heaving a sigh, Toph nods at the ground, making a bundle of earth pop out of the sidewalk and hold her boyfriend’s feet in place. “Actually, I’m not.”
