Summary
Joshua could see timers above people’s heads–no one else could, and thus no one could ever tell him what the timers could have meant.
And for so long he feared that the timers meant the worst: that they were counting down on the specific day, hour, and second that people would come to hate him–because Joshua had nothing to offer. He was just Joshua Hong, just him, and there couldn’t possibly be anything worthy he could contribute to their group.
It was just him and the timers that only he could see, which seemed to reflect everything the world hates about him and everything he hates about himself.
(He couldn’t fathom to think that maybe the timers meant otherwise–that, maybe, they were counting down instead to the specific day, hour, and second that people would come to love him for all that he is.)
