Summary
Instead, he's feels as if he's about to pass out, swaying on his feet, sweating through his skin and so so empty. He wants something, something he can't place.
"Kaz?" Jesper questions, furrowing his brows, "Do you need to sit down?"
"No," Kaz says, the word sounding as if he had tear it from his throat. Kaz shakes his head, what is going on with him?
"You're flushed, do you have a fever?" Wylan asks, titling his head as if studying Kaz.
"I swear to the saints, Brekker, if you've been hiding being sick from us and you're almost about to die too, I will kick your ass." Nina snaps, but he can smell the worry beneath, and the stress.
Kaz shakes his head, "I think—"
Kaz can smell the worry beneath. Kaz can smell the worry beneath. He's never been able to smell any of them before, he shouldn't be able to, not with suppressants coursing through his body. Kaz can't recall the last time he'd smelt anything, not since he first presented and he was sweaty and exhausted and wanting nothing more for than someone to—
Saints, he was in heat.

Summary
Matthias Helvar had never been anything more than one of his chess pieces to move whenever it suited his schemes. He was a cog in the machinery, a means to an end, a tool to wield and discard once his purpose had been fulfilled.
Kaz Brekker was not accustomed to needing anyone, so why did he feel so empty? Why did it matter to him, apart from the obvious lost investment, that the Fjerdan was dead?
Matthias had become more than just a pawn; he had belonged to them, to him. And someone had stolen him from right under his nose.
Did they not understand the consequences of crossing Dirtyhands? Did they not understand the lengths he would go?
Matthias Helvar would be brought back, no matter the cost.
