“You’re not dying on me, Munson! Not today!”
On them…
-----
With a pulse that is barely there, they manage to get Eddie out of the Upside Down and into the hospital. It takes weeks for him to wake up, but Steve is always there, needs to make sure that Eddie is really there, that he is alive and breathing. He spends every night by his bed, reads The Lord of the Rings to Eddie until he falls asleep, because at the hospital, in Eddie's presence, is the only place where he can find some rest. No wonder, that Steve is there when Eddie finally wakes up.
It's not the last night he spends by Eddie's side, because they both seem to need the other one to get some rest and not be haunted by nightmares. They bond over their mutual experiences, confide in each other, and along the way, it gets harder and harder for them to ignore their feelings for each other. But it's not always that simple, is it? I mean, it's not like Eddie has inspired Steve to compose a song or anything...Bookmarked by Tellhound

Summary
Sometimes the best family is the one that we choose, not the one we're born into.
Steve's parents never make him their priority, so when he's sick, he is left to his own devices. When Joyce finds this out, she treats him like one of her own sons and makes sure he gets the care he deserves.
