“I’ll have you know, I can be very charming when I want to be,” said Jaskier, aiming for a bit of light-hearted teasing.
The corner of Geralt’s mouth lifted, but then dropped back into a more somber expression. “Lambert,” he said carefully, “is a contrary ass. The more you try to charm him, the less likely it is to work."

At long last, Geralt invites Jaskier to Kaer Morhen. Lambert is less than pleased to have a stranger in the keep, especially since his favorite outsider would never be offered the same welcome. Or so he thinks—but sometimes, a cruel twist of fate can turn out to be a miracle in disguise.

Jaskier, on the other hand, has no idea why witchers in trouble keep bumping into him on the road, but fate is funny that way, isn’t it? He’s certainly not going to turn them away

Summary
“Can’t afford it,” Geralt grunted.
“It’s not that expensive to rent a bed -” Jaskier started.
It stings to have it pushed in his face that his life isn’t normal, so far beyond normal that someone like Jaskier can’t fathom it.
“It’s expensive to rent a private room,” Geralt couldn’t keep the snarl out of his voice. “Or do you think anyone wants to sleep near a witcher?”
When Geralt meets Jaskier in Posada, he is jaded, bitter and so lonely some days he thinks he might kill him. Jaskier is young, bright, and not afraid of tarnishing his reputation by standing by a witcher.
Years later, Geralt repays the kindness.

Summary
Geralt tried so hard not to get attached or even get close to humans. Vesemir had drilled into them nothing good would come of it. Such things are a weakness and a weak witcher is a dead one. Though how come this bard seems to contradict everything Geralt thought he knew. Jaskier is weak in every definition he'd been taught.
