Toshinori, a sharkman isolated by his peers after a years-long absence leaves him disfigured and mentally scarred, finds himself the victim of a poaching attempt and succumbs to his blood loss, hoping he would be happy in the next life he might see.
When he opens his eyes the first time, he is alive, injured but treated, and in unfamiliar territory amongst humankind.
When he opens his eyes the next few times, he is keeping them at bay.
When he opens his eyes one particular day, there is only one human there. A scar, a baggy coat hanging off his shoulders, obsidian-black eyes and matching hair.
The little voice inside him says not to trust him, but he can't help but gravitate towards him, firmly cementing himself in his orbit.
And he keeps his eyes open.

Summary
Runoff from local iterators, polluted by heavy metals and other contaminants, has turned a small forest into a decaying marsh. Two benefactors decide to solve this issue by building a smaller scale iterator in the heart of the marsh, her facilities used for studying the contamination and filtering out the pollutants.
The iterator grows to adore her administrators and the small team living atop her superstructure, so when the inevitable occurs, it leaves her distraught and crestfallen. What will become of a machine so accustomed to the love of others?

Iterators were created to serve the whims of the Ancients that created them as well as their kind, right? What would come of an Iterator that wasn't built like that- a subservient bio-machine that never questioned its own creation?
What would come of him if he wasn't built "correctly"? What if he malfunctioned from the start and it lead to unforeseeable events?

Perhaps this was a good sign. A step in the right direction and away from his downwards spiral of uuuggghhhh. Because the way Mettaton saw it, he now had one of two options.
One: retreat to the lukewarm comforts of a lumpy couch until he became one with the cushions and waited until the inevitable heat death of the universe collapsed onto him to finally end the soul-crushing boredom.
Or two: watch whatever the hell was on his newly acquired TV.
Alone and bored to death, Mettaton looks for a way to pass the time while the Internet is down. Good news, he does. Bad news... uh, it’s totally normal to want to kiss your recently acquired TV, right? (asking for a friend, haha...)

Susie was no longer at the table.
From the corner of their eye, they caught movement near the stairs. She was halfway up already, hoodie sleeves bunched around her elbows, tail swaying slightly beneath the hem. She moved like she wasn’t sure whether she wanted to be seen or not—one foot creaking on the third step, then stopping, like she was waiting for someone to call her back.

After her mother passes away, Susie is placed in foster care—and Toriel, with one child away at college and another growing quiet in the space he left behind, takes her in. Kris doesn’t know her well. Not beyond the kid who used to sit behind them and chew her pencil into splinters. But now they’ll share a room, a house, and all the quiet leftover spaces that come with grief and growing up.
And then, just as things begin to settle into a shape that might almost resemble home, someone else goes missing. This time, from Noelle’s house. Susie isn’t one to mind her business.
