Huaisang had told himself he was finished indulging childish fantasies.
Which—judging by the wilted lotuses staring right back at him—had apparently been a lie.
Thirteen whole years. Over a decade, it had been, and he was still trapped in all aspects by a sheer inability to move on.
The world at large couldn’t care less for his predicament—least of all Yunmeng Jiang—so, naturally, that is where he wound up.
Huaisang had made many stupid choices throughout his time; what was one more to aid the crescendo?
Or
Some plans take far more than 13 years to come to fruition. Luckily, Huaisang is willing to wait.
If only he could stop dwelling on the past.

The hobbits reminisce upon their childhoods with Frodo. The bonds they forged in the nursery, up a tree, or over a shared meal; the bonds that not even a life-altering quest or a looming dark lord could undo.
The fellowship realise their little ones share a history that runs deeper than casual camaraderie. Perhaps their own interconnections with the ring-bearer have been short-lived by comparison, but they unfold to be no less fulfilling.
