If Shauna became a worm, Jackie would build her a palace out of mud and bark and moss. Whatever worms needed to be happy and safe, she’d make it happen. She’d learn. She’d adapt. She’d kneel in the dirt and make something worthy of her.

It wasn’t just survival—it was choice. A choice to carry a weight noone could stomach. Taissa respected that.
Shauna didn’t hide from the dark things; she met them head-on, teeth bared. She made hard calls and lived with them. She was all silent choices and consequences carried like a second spine. Taissa knew all about that. She was the hand behind the curtain, the thing that took over when the good side blinked. The one who kept them safe.
But Shauna? She never needed a split. She did the bloody work herself.
And all this darkness. All this blood. It made Shauna fascinating. Dangerous. Gorgeous.

Natalie scanned the crowd, eyes sweeping over teammates, faculty, random classmates who showed up for the free pizza and drama.
Somewhere in the back row, Kevin was standing with his hands in his pockets.
He always showed up, even when she didn’t ask him to.
Sometimes she wished he was her soulmate.
It would make things easier.
Predictable. Clean.
But then a flash of brown caught her eye.
Shauna.
Smiling.
Not the faint polite one she gave teachers or Jackie’s parents—this one was
wide, easy, real.Her whole face lit up like she forgot to be tired for once.
It was strange, seeing her like that.
Jackie hugged her then, tight. Like Shauna might slip away if she didn’t hold on hard enough.
And Shauna leaned into it.
Looked at her like Jackie had hung the moon.
Natalie knew she looked for a second too long.
She didn’t know why.
Didn’t know what that was.
Just that it settled in her ribs like a bruise she didn’t remember getting.

It didn’t feel real. The entire plane crash situation felt like a nightmare, of course, but Shauna’s death was too hard to wrap her mind around. It just didn’t make sense.

"Maybe eighteen or seventeen people survived, I don’t think anyone’s sure anymore.” Van says under her breath, going back to her chocolate puddling like it’s nothing.
“And only eight of us came back?”
They stare at her blankly and she wonders if she said something wrong.
Shauna Shipman suffered a traumatic brain injury and forgot everything from the wilderness and the two years prior. Now being safe and sound she gotta find out what the hell happened while they were out there and figure out who she wants to be.
