    Summary

Simon was finally going to die.

A boulder nearly as big as Dr. Grace's house was already seconds away from Simon's face, having suddenly and unluckily dislodged itself from the cliff.

He yelped as pure terror shot through his veins, leaping away from the center of the boulder (but not nearly far enough), and landing on the ground roughly, knocking the air and a pained grunt from his lungs. In the same instant he curled as tight as he could, covered his head with his hand, and squeezed his eyes shut.

Choked, frantic prayers spilled from his lips into the sand as time seemed to stand still and grow longer in his last moments, drawing out his agony.

He prayed and shuddered and prayed and shuddered and—

Surely the boulder should have him dead by now.

    Simon looked up.

His stomach dropped right through the sand, past the rest of this planet, and into the infinite abyss of space beyond.

The boulder was floating a few feet above him, covered in a gentle barrier of glowing neon green, and to Simon's front, who had been leading the way to his house, was what Simon could only guess was Grace's true form.

    Summary

“I don’t一” Simon’s voice is soft and broken and he hates it, he hates the fear permeating his entire body. “I don’t want you to be a hallucination.”

Grace’s faint mumbles and a strange whistling voice die down. Then Grace says, “This is real. It’s real, and we’re getting you out. I promise.”

Simon closes his eyes. He breathes out.

“My name,” he says. His voice is rough with unshed tears. “My name is Simon.”

“Nice to meet you, Simon. Hang tight. We’ll be there soon.”
    -
Simon is rescued from the blood ocean by a stranger who calls himself a scientist, who claims to be on his way to an alien planet called Erid. Aboard the Hail Mary, Simon has to contend with the fact that dimensional travel maybe exists, living on a space ship, and somehow surviving the struggles of deep space—all while maybe falling in love with the strange man with blue eyes.

    Summary

Simon wakes slowly, booting up one atom at a time. The first thing he registers is that he's pleasantly warm— not the suffocating heat of whatever iron lung they had sent him down to die in. The second thing he registers is the plushness of whatever surface he's lying on. There's no harsh metal boiling against his skin. He doesn't immediately open his eyes. His brain feels syrupy and full of fog all at once, and he finds it rather nice to just exist in this soft in-between. He'd done good, hadn't he? Was this Heaven? He died on that ship, in the mouth of a vengeful beast that couldn't recognize its own ghastlyness. Heaven was nice, Simon decided. He liked Heaven.

    Summary

Simon glares viciously at the poor excuse of a knot. It’s not the boot’s fault, he knows that. He’s glaring because he has no other option than the one currently at his disposal, and it’s an option he despises with every piece of his wretched heart. But the sun is climbing higher and he needs to get outside to check on the garden. He grits his teeth and forces the words out.

    “Can you…help me with something?”
