“Have fun you three!” Thor exclaimed, leaning down to the boys’ height to fake-whisper, “Tell your Papa I said hello.” Both boys smiled and nodded, then threw themselves at Thor who caught them expertly in his arms for a hug.
“Bye Uncle Thor!” Vali said into Thor’s neck, Narvi echoing it on the other side a moment after.
Thor laughed softly as they left on their walk, “well, they are ju–” he cut himself off as he turned and saw all of the Avengers staring at him as if they hadn’t moved for some time. Bruce caught Thor’s eyes and cringed, shrugging his shoulders.
“Uncle Thor?” Clint exclaimed. “Please tell me that Sigyn is your sister you never told us you had.”

The breaking point comes out of nowhere. Bruce is sitting in the kitchen around noon, and Clint walks in and microwaves up an Indian curry. Natasha comes in too, dressed up for a short assignment, and her perfume smells like jasmine and opium. Tony is already there, holding a tumbler of very expensive scotch. And all these smells sliding together - from different continents and different places - the cardamom and lemongrass and jasmine and peat moss - Bruce can feel them all and his entire body tenses, and he is absolutely certain that he wants to leave.
Dr. Bruce Banner packs his backpack - two pants, four shirts, a toothbrush, three sets of forged documentation, and twenty thousand dollars in cash - and walks out of Avengers Tower. He drops his phone in an envelope, then a mailbox, and disappears.
Natasha follows.

“Look around that corner again,” said Loki, “very carefully.”
Bruce, being the closest to the corner, peeked around, saw something, then jumped backwards with a curse. “We’re dead,” he declared to the group. “We’re dead. We need to get off of this stupid hunk of rock right now.”
Thor heard Loki’s quiet, “Agreed,” as he looked around the corner himself. It took a moment, but then he saw it. There were two Chitauri soldiers standing guard in the cavern.
“Damn it,” he swore.
Or: The Statesman is low on fuel, the Revengers stop at a trading outpost to get some, and run into problems.
