    [Book 2]

It's been two years since Peter faked his death and helped to take down HYDRA. Things had been great since then– he asked MJ out, started attending Columbia, and got to continue being Spider-Man.

So, when Nick Fury showed up in his apartment once more, Peter knew his good luck streak was coming to a close. Sure enough, Fury informed him that there was an alien named Thanos intent on collecting ridiculously powerful “infinity stones” in order to use them to wipe out half of the universe.

Which, really? Peter just wanted to be able to make it to his college graduation.

    Thanos had other plans.

Or: an exploration of how Infinity War and Endgame could have gone down in the alternate universe established in ‘end of beginning.’

Reading the first story isn’t technically a requirement to understand the actual plot of this one, but it does establish how Peter got to this more independent/skilled mindset and also makes a LOT of references to the first one, so I’d recommend reading it to understand the characterizations and callbacks.

    Summary

    [Book 1]

Eight months ago, Spider-Man was killed in an explosion orchestrated by HYDRA, leaving behind his mourning friends and family.

Eight months ago, Peter Parker opened his eyes in an underground bunker, in a room with Director Fury.

The only one who knows of Peter’s continued presence in the land of the living is Fury himself, and he offers Peter a proposal— becoming an undercover SHIELD agent.

Fury's motivation: a HYDRA computer disk containing critical information– and Peter (enhanced, anonymous, and seemingly deceased) is the perfect undercover agent.

Peter’s motivation: protect his friends and family, and continue his duties as Spider-Man, in order to take down one of the most infamous supervillain organizations in the world. No biggie.

    Summary

Peter often wondered about the atomic bomb.

More than most teenagers should, probably. Though most teenagers weren’t vigilantes either. In any event, his wonderings had nothing to do with his extracurriculars. It was only tangentially related, in the way he seemed to be able to detonate his entire life in seconds, in an exorbitantly bright and colorful manner.

The thing was, an atomic bomb didn’t start with the explosion, although everyone always focused on that bit. Humans always did have a fascination with things that killed them, and from a humanitarian perspective, the damage was what was important. But coming from a more chemical perspective, the explosion was almost incidental.

The real danger was in the preparation, in the way two things that were stable on their own could be forced together under exactly the right — or wrong — conditions. Not inherently volatile, nor doomed from the start, but close enough and aligned until a reaction became inevitable.

    –-

OR: Peter nearly dies, goes into a coma, wakes up, and then gets himself into a hostage situation, all while Tony is acting strangely distant. It is, objectively, not a good month for him.

    Summary

“He was completely, one-hundred percent screwed.

No one was looking for him. He was in the most secure prison in the world, which was filled to the brim with armed personnel. He was wearing a shock collar.

And if he somehow figured all that out, he still couldn’t swim.

    Yep. Screwed.”
    ———
Peter Parker died six months ago in a fire after a horrible chemical accident.

    ...or did he?

At least, that’s what Tony believes when an unemployed Ross illegally imprisons the Avengers on the Raft, which was supposed to have been destroyed.
    ———
AU where the Accords were declared stupid, Ross was fired, Tony and Steve became friends again, and they all live together in Avengers tower.

Peter Parker-Centric. Trigger warning for suicidal themes.
