Summary
"Then—off-key but unmistakably familiar—came a voice from just outside the room.
“Happy birthday to you… Happy birthday to you…”
Tim smiled before he even turned his head.
Hawk stood in the doorway, barefoot, his sweatpants hanging low on his hips, hair a chaotic masterpiece. In his hands, carefully balanced, was a cake—a small, round thing set on a pale blue plate. It looked like something out of a dream."

Summary
“Have you seen me and Hen get sick at the same time in our fifteen years of close friendship working at the 118?” Chimney asked, looking between Buck and Eddie seriously.
Buck’s mouth opened and closed a few times like a fish, his mind blanking on when an event like that occurred in their several years working together. Eddie stared at him helplessly, throwing Buck into the deep end to answer for them, making him grimace.
Scrunching his face together in deep thought, Buck replied more like a question with, “Yes?”
“No!” Chimney barked. Everyone in the circle jumped with fright.
“Weak immune systems?” Eddie tried again, wincing slightly.
“Just get in the truck,” Chimney ordered with immense defeat.
Or; Buck and Eddie are secretly dating, but they both catch a cold at the same time, raising suspicions at work.

Summary
"Hey," Eddie says. "Can we go outside for a minute?"
Buck looks up and his face is carefully neutral, which on Buck is the equivalent of a five-alarm blaze because this man has never been neutral about a single thing in his life.
"Sure."
They leave cash on the table and step out into the parking lot. The air is heavy and thick with honeysuckle and asphalt and the far-off electric promise of rain. The cat is gone and the neon sign buzzes above them, pink and sputtering.
"I don't want to stay here tonight," Eddie says.
Buck’s eyebrows tick up. "Okay?"
Hesitating, cutting a look back at the diner, Eddie says, "Look, I know we were gonna find a motel somewhere around here but this place doesn't sit right with me. I can't explain it. I'd rather just keep driving."
He's bracing for Buck to push back, to ask what specifically feels wrong, use this as a doorway back into the booth and the hand and all of it. But Buck just looks at his face for a second and nods.
"Yeah. Okay. Let's go."

FICTION TO FRICTION?: English Darling Henry Fox tops American Heartthrob Alex Claremont-Diaz in scandalous new photos from launch party of raunchy gay novel
At the lavish launch party thrown for his spicy queer romance novel, author (and Bond Baby) Henry Fox finds himself on the floor with the man who graces the cover, Alex Claremont-Diaz. The model was tapped to be the cover boy a few months back, and he has been on a clear ascent since. The greatly anticipated novel promises to bring the heat, and the photos from the event already have us sweating. The latest interaction has many wondering what the relationship between these two really is. Has a new rivalry come onto the scene, or perhaps are they the next international power couple? Their respective teams have refused to comment on the topic. We will be keeping an eye on Fox’s European book tour for international incidents.

Summary
“I didn’t hit my head,” Eddie shakes his head free with an irritated huff and shoots Buck a glare. “Stop deflecting. What are you sorry for?”
(the flashback, the freeze,
the shove,
the dull, sickening thud of Eddie’s body taking the hit meant for him)
Buck swallows; where does he even begin? There is no stopping the barrage once he opens his mouth. The guilt will spill out messy and humiliating, and he will cry, and he will abase himself, and he will beg for forgiveness even though he is undeserving of it.
