Tim dreaded these meetings. The ones that saw him called out of class, and into the office of his guidance counselor. Bombarded with questions about his “future plans,” with the expectation being that he knew, for sure, at the ripe age of 18-years-old, what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. He had pushed the questions aside, changing the subject, even leaving the meetings altogether to avoid coming to terms with the fact that he had to make a decision.
“Have you thought about the military Tim?” He shook his head.
"It can be tough, but while you're in, it’ll force you into doing some things you might enjoy or be good at, and if not you’ll at least know what’s not for you.There’s obviously different branches, but I can set you up with a recruiter so you can talk more with them. Actually, there was an army recruiter here just the other day, I have his contact info–”
“I’ll take it,” Tim interjected.
Tim graduated, and shipped out for basic training at Fort Moore in Georgia one month later.

“Uh,” Samira glances around, wrinkling her nose. “No. Later. When it’s just you and me.”
“It’s just you and me right now,” he says, grinning mischievously as his fingers slip into her curls, lightly massaging her scalp.
“Jack,” she huffs with a roll of her eyes while leaning back into his touch, though the corners of her lips twitch with a smile. “I’d rather our first slow dance not be next to a toilet.”
