As Mitchell took in the tall, cement walls, the iron fences, the orange jumpsuits, and desolate looks around him, Gideon’s voice started to fade out, replaced by the pounding of blood in his ears. This was a prison. They were prisoners of war. His heart started to beat faster. They were stuck, they were in prison. He wanted to run, to scream, to do something but all he could do was struggle to swallow down the bile that was gathering in his throat, and to force another breath.
Written for Whumptember 2022: Alt 5 - "desperately reaching for their loved one’s hand". Set during the 'Captured' mission for Advanced Warfare.
