Summary
I had installed the mental health module but hadn’t toggled it on yet. Which is why I was now in my cabin arguing with a bossy machine super-intelligence over how many emotions I might be capable of having.
I had completed a total of one part of one step in the trauma recovery process and didn’t want to continue. Ever since we got the hell out of that system where ART got deleted and I thought it was dead, and I got contaminated and 2.0 sacrificed itself –
SecUnit.
I didn’t really want to revisit all that.
SecUnit, ART said more forcefully. Your stats are dropping.
Right. Get it together, Murderbot. It was probably too late to throw myself out the airlock.

“It’s an invitation to go to a university and talk to some bots, what’s to make of it?” I said. Then the obvious reason behind Bharadwaj asking occurred to me. Oh, great. “Don’t tell me you’re actually thinking about going?”
“I’m considering it,” Bharadwaj said. “I set my own schedule these days, and I would very much like to speak with the bots they’ve been working with, if nothing else.”
I sighed. I like sighing at appropriate moments, and I think I’m pretty good at it at this point. “There are bots on Preservation.”
“True, but the Pansystem University of Mihira and New Tideland has one of the most advanced programs in this section of the galaxy for the construction and study of higher-level bots!” Bharadwaj said, making one of those hand gestures she liked for emphasis.

It’s impossible to get a read on her. Maomao’s beginning to realize that Shisui is just as clever as Suirei, especially the way she filters the information she discloses. Talkative but withholding key details. Gossipy but not about the things that matter. Oversharing but only about bugs.
She wonders if there’s any way she can chip away at that wall, to get a glimpse of Loulan through Shisui, of Shisui through Loulan. It’s a dangerous game to play, a risky puzzle to try and solve.
A collection of one-shots from an Alternate Universe where Maomao figures out Loulan's identity while they're still at the rear palace. Not much plot, just a lot of vibes. Also not much romance, just hella bonding.

Summary
I held it for a long moment and waited for ART’s litany to run out of steam. When it finished, it did the bot equivalent of taking a deep breath, then said, I am so mad at you.
“I got that.” I know I’m not great at the emotions thing but even I could figure out ART was pissed at me from the raging storm of its feed presence and, you know, all the insults. “Why?”
