Chuckling, Robby glanced around. “Princess owes me twenty bucks, when I get back.” He remarked with a grin, fending off her playful slap. “I called it hours ago, that if it came to it, you’d get her out of here.” His hand landed on her forearm and squeezed. “Of course, how else can I help?”

Only half paying attention, eyes roving the whiteboard in front of her, Dana hummed. “Well, it’s his first day back, he’s tryin some new things.”
Turning to face her fully, Monica frowned. “I thought he was leaving, not getting back.”
Marker cap now caught between her teeth, Dana’s brow furrowed. “Who you talking bout?” She managed around the plastic as she added notes here and there and wiped another spot clean.

Melissa stepped out of her car and pushed her sunglasses into her hair as she leaned against the door and roof. “You sure this is where Janine lives?” She asked Barb who’d just got out of the passenger seat and shut it.
“It’s what the invitation says.” Barbara replied, face a bit dubious as they took in the building. “We were once young, broke, single teachers too, though, Melissa. Don’t judge too harshly.”
Closing her door, Melissa slung her purse over her shoulder. “Not judging, you shoulda seen the place I had right outta college, not even roaches wanted to live there.”
Nose wrinkling in distaste, Barbara headed for the door. “Well, let’s just be glad we’re past that stage in our lives.”
Eyes landing on her target, Melissa lengthened her stride to catch up to Barbara, slapped her on that gorgeous ass, and then quickly moved up the steps not giving the other woman time to retaliate. “Yeah, now we’re just broke teachers, ain’t nothing young or single here.”
A huff of surprise and indignation escaped Barbara. “Melissa!”

It was a strange but not unheard-of thing to have one’s soulmarks on their fingertips.
The little black dots on each fingertip of his left hand could almost pass as non-protruding moles on a first glance, except the chances of having five identically sized moles on one hand were slim to none. His kids would ask about them, sometimes. They hadn’t the age nor maturity yet to understand the nuance behind soulmarks—their different ways of presenting, what they entailed, why Mr. Grace hadn’t found his person yet if he was so nice—but had loads of hypotheses around the topic. For Ryland, it was a bit of a touchy subject to teach.
So it was more than just a little disappointing when Director Stratt walked in his classroom that fateful fall afternoon and he felt the signature twinge that everyone describes, sudden and sharp and deep in his core the moment he laid eyes on her, sure that there would be something there when his gaze immediately dropped to her hands—only for them to be pale, porcelain, and bare. If she noticed the host of emotions that crossed his face over the span of their interaction, she didn’t comment. And that was that.
